Radionuclide imaging with labeled red blood cells
Types of tests: SPECT/CT of the liver
Aim: to verify the nature of an identified neoplasm of the liver. To make of a differential diagnosis of hemangioma, metastases and primary neoplasms. To detect and localize intermittent hemorrhage in the small intestine and colon.
Indications:
- Suspected intermittent hemorrhage of the lower gastrointestinal tract.
Imaging agent: Patient’s own red blood cells labeled with Tc99m.
Principles: The test is performed directly after an intravenous injection of the imaging agent. If necessary, deferred scanning is performed 60-120 minutes in the same mode.
Preparation: No special preparation is necessary.
SPECT/CT allows identification and location of lesions that are less than 1 cm. It allows location of the source of bleeding in the intestine.
