Department of neuro-oncology
The Department of Neuro-Oncology provides surgical treatment for patients with tumors of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system.
Our neurosurgeons perform a wide spectrum of surgeries covering such diseases as:
- primary neoplasms of the brain,
- primary neoplasms of the spinal cord,
- neoplasms of the meninges of the brain,
- neoplasms of the skull,
- metastases of tumors of all sites into the brain and skull, and
- tumors of peripheral nerves.
Our patients are offered state-of-the-art surgical, medical and radiation treatment as part of combination and multimodal therapy that is within international guidelines. To improve the quality of treatment and increase the safety of our patients, we use cutting-edge surgical equipment (including ZEISS surgical microscopes). The use of advanced surgical techniques and equipment helps us to reduce surgical trauma, enhance wound healing and minimize the risk of complications that may occur after surgery.
Surgeries performed by our specialists
- Microsurgical removal of brain tumors, including under ultrasound guidance and intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring
- Microsurgical removal of spinal cord tumors
- Microsurgical removal of neoplasms of the skull and the meninges of the brain, followed by surgical reconstruction of post-surgical defects
- Removal of tumors of the peripheral nervous system
- Stereotactic biopsies of brain tumors
The specialists of our Center will diagnose a cancer or confirm a cancer diagnosis, and provide combination treatment, including surgical therapy and adjuvant therapy, to patients with tumors of the central and peripheral nervous system. Our Department of Neuro-Oncology works alongside the Department of Rehabilitation, so that our patients could begin their post-treatment recovery immediately after surgery.
